Exhibition - Within the space of a dream

Description

Navajo earrings.

These earrings are small silver dream filters with a turquoise nugget.

In Native tradition, the dream filter hangs in the bedroom window and has the power to catch all dreams. Bad dreams are trapped in the cloth until sunrise and are burnt away by the first rays of the sun. Good dreams, on the other hand, find their way to the centre of the web and are filtered down to the feathers. Thus retained, they can be dreamt again another night.
