On the trail of the Sioux

Tepee, feather, bison, peace pipe, arrow, tomahawk, headdress... These are some of the things people in the West often associate with the indigenous populations of the northern half of the American continent. Travel diaries, paintings, shows and fi lms have shaped this collective imagination. The exhibition invites visitors to look back at the long process of construction of this iconography, which was gradually dominated by the Sioux, to the point that they alone embodied the “American Indian”.
